Weekly News Blast: Clerk Stefanie Schlapa filed the annual Recycling Report required by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. The Town of Grant is a “Responsible Unit” or RU as we are independent – we have our own transfer station and don’t rely on Portage County or another entity to contract for our solid waste or recycling agreements and services. There are many highlights within the report but here are just a few: 53 tons of recycled materials were hauled; based on our population each person recycled just shy of 59 lbs; there were 146 tires collected; and sale of certain recyclables were $9,350 (aluminum, metals, etc.) collected. The Town will receive a WDNR Recycling award of nearly $2300.00. This, along with the good efforts by our residents to reuse, recycle and repurpose help to keep our Transfer Station costs down. That said, our annual Choose to Reuse, Tire Day and Litter Pick-up is scheduled for Saturday May 17th. Mark your calendar now and watch for a bright pink postcard in the mail to arrive soon! Enjoy the weekend, Sharon
