Weekly News Blast: It’s that time of year again – no, not just the holidays, but time to renew your dog license. Contact Treasurer Greg Hakala at treasurer@townofgrant-portage.wi.gov. or give him a call at 715-697-3901. The Town of Grant ranked #1 in Portage County for dog-licensing in 2024, thanks to our responsible dog-owners. Thank you! Let’s keep up our incredible record and show all the other municipalities how it’s done.   Our public works crew was busy brushing along our road rights of way this week. They have been doing a very nice job. This is a good time to remind everyone that now through February is a great time to prune or cut oaks without the risk of oak wilt infection. Oak wilt is an invasive fungal disease deadly to all Wisconsin oak species. One of the ways it spreads is by sap-feeding beetles that carry spores from infected trees to fresh wounds of healthy trees. Oak wilt is very expensive to treat, but prevention is effective and much less costly. One of the best ways to help protect oaks is to prune or cut in the winter. Have a very happy and safe New Year, Sharon

Weekly News Blast

This week we note the passing of Charlie Gussel; a dedicated public servant to the Town of Grant. Mr. Gussel served for decades in several capacities: Zoning Administrator, Plan Commissioner (both Chair and Member), County Supervisor, several ad-hoc committees, and a regular attendee at town board meetings. Several of the “old guard” of the Town have passed in recent years so it’s important to note that their contributions to our history is significant. Since the mid-1980s Charlie advocated for our independence when it came to local zoning. Now for 50 years our Town has continued to be the only municipality that maintains its own zoning. Today we continue his legacy by revising and readjusting with the changing times. Thank you Charlie.
