Weekly News Blast: It’s that time of year again – no, not just the holidays, but time to renew your dog license. Contact Treasurer Greg Hakala at treasurer@townofgrant-portage.wi.gov. or give him a call at 715-697-3901. The Town of Grant ranked #1 in Portage County for dog-licensing in 2024, thanks to our responsible dog-owners. Thank you! Let’s keep up our incredible record and show all the other municipalities how it’s done.   Our public works crew was busy brushing along our road rights of way this week. They have been doing a very nice job. This is a good time to remind everyone that now through February is a great time to prune or cut oaks without the risk of oak wilt infection. Oak wilt is an invasive fungal disease deadly to all Wisconsin oak species. One of the ways it spreads is by sap-feeding beetles that carry spores from infected trees to fresh wounds of healthy trees. Oak wilt is very expensive to treat, but prevention is effective and much less costly. One of the best ways to help protect oaks is to prune or cut in the winter. Have a very happy and safe New Year, Sharon

Weekly News Blast

The Kellner Corn Fest parade begins tomorrow (8/16) at 11:00 am. Please join in the fun! The Town will be represented by Treasurer Greg Hakala and Clerk Stefanie Schlapa riding in our patrol truck and employee Steve Dobeck operating our grader. I think Uncle Sam might be visible in one of the vehicles…

At our monthly board meeting on Wednesday Clerk Schlapa reported that town taxpayers have paid $67,142.36 in attorney fees due to the lawsuits filed by former Supervisor Heather Grys-Luecht. The Town Board had hoped to spend nearly $100,000 in highway maintenance this season (crack-sealing, asphalt patching, culvert cleaning, road base material, etc). Unfortunately, these suits have taken away nearly 2/3rds of our budget so as Supervisor Provost said at the meeting, “we are trying to do more with less”. I just wish we could do more with more. But for the 2025 construction season that will not be possible. We apologize for any inconvenience but when someone sues the Town, we all pay.

Have fun this weekend, Sharon
