Weekly News Blast

This week we note the passing of Allan Farrey, long-time resident, and former clerk (1987-88). He died in Minnesota where he resided for the past several years. I got to know Al when he chose to be one of the plaintiffs for the Town when we sued Portage County over double taxation for ambulance service. He was very intent on this case and was a pleasure to work with and get to know. He has been missed.

Our 40+ year concrete and porcelain palace at the Transfer Station has been crushed thanks to PGA Service of Weston (pics below). WOW is all I can say! All the waste materials have been effectively converted to recycled road base which will soon find its way onto 100th Street north of Elm Street. Any remaining road base will be placed on other sections of road in need. We allotted $23,000 for the crushing but that likely won’t be the final outlay as PGA did not recycle as much as they estimated. Preliminary estimates of the “value” of the recycled base we received from the crushing may be somewhere between $75,000-$100,000. A great return on our investment and a great way to help the environment too!

The public works crew fixed some potholes on Oak Street this week using a back blade that was purchased for just $150.00 last year (pics below). The crew has been able to continue working with the weather yet so mild.

Here’s to another lovely weekend ahead, Sharon
