Weekly News Blast: By now most of you have heard about the fatal accident that occurred on Evergreen Avenue west of County Road F. An 18-year-old passenger was killed, the 17-year-old driver was severely injured and airlifted for medical help, and two individuals in the back seat were uninjured. It was found that the driver was driving recklessly, swerving on and off the road when the vehicle overturned. Sadly, this is not the first time such an accident has happened in our Town. More than 15 years ago, two underage boys were traveling nearly 100 miles per hour on Griffith Avenue, lost control and lost their lives. These incidents are devastating for families and a loss for the entire community of young people with promising futures. We mourn these individuals and the families who cherished them. Unbelievably there were two residents in our Town who confronted public works employees berating and blaming them for this accident. Really? Most residents in this Town are compassionate and kind but there are several who are making it their mission to place the blame for their own unhappiness on us. Their behavior is simply cruel. Suffice to say that these residents’ names and contact information will be known to Portage County law enforcement who will follow up if confrontations persist. On behalf of the Town of Grant I want to thank Public Works employee Randy Krey who recently left our employment. In his short stint with the Town, he proved to be an enormous help and provided a professional lift to our crew. Thank you, Randy! But now we need one or two more public works employees for construction season and snowplowing. If you are interested, please contact Supervisor Doug Steltenpohl at 715-213-0294 and/or send a brief resume’ with your work experience, any certifications that you have, and two-three references for the attention of Clerk, 9011 CTH WW, Wisconsin Rapids, WI 54494. Thank you. And don’t forget to hug the ones you love, Sharon
