Air Quality Alert: Wildfire smoke from fires in southern Ontario, Canada and northeast Minnesota has moved into Wisconsin, creating unhealthy air quality conditions. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has issued an Air Quality Advisory through noon on Thursday. Air quality is expected to reach the Unhealthy to Very Unhealthy level, with the potential to reach the Hazardous Air Quality Index level. The advisory will be re-evaluated Thursday morning and may be extended based on conditions. According to the Department of Health Services, wildfire smoke can affect anyone, but people who may notice symptoms sooner include older adults, young children, people who are pregnant, outdoor workers, and individuals with heart or lung conditions such as asthma or COPD.

Weekly Blast!

What a difference a few years makes! Seems the gestation period for tires in the Town of Grant is about three years. On Tire Day last Saturday, we collected 386 tires! That’s more than in the past few years and included many commercial and tractor sized tires. Thanks are extended to Transfer Station employee Larry Wagner who really hustled to offload those tires along with the very pleasant residents who loaded and helped to offload them as well. Hundreds of items also came in during our Choose to Reuse program. Many lovely and usable items were dropped off and then taken by residents. Those items that were not taken at the end of the day were recycled, tossed, or taken to a thrift store. Thanks are extended to Avis Schroer who volunteered the entire day during this annual “freecycle” program.

Supervisor Doug Steltenpohl and Public Works employee Garry Saeger were out on pothole patrol this week. They are documenting where potholes need to be patched, which roads need joint and crack-sealing, where signage needs to be corrected, and where chipping brush needs to be completed prior to mowing.

Things are really starting to green up and hopefully we are truly past any frosty evenings now. This holiday week promises to bring much warmer weather. Please enjoy yourself and stay safe out there. Sharon
