Weekly Blast!: Do you hold a Commercial Driver’s License? If so, the Town of Grant is seeking snowplow operators and might be interested in interviewing YOU! Hours are part-time, unpredictable, and totally weather dependent – CRAZY! But if your winters are spent here rather than Arizona or Florida give our Town Clerk a call at 715-213-7370 or the Town Hall at 715-423-9193 or email her at clerk@townofgrant-portage.wi.gov.   The failed culvert on 90th Street S between Quarry and County Road W was replaced this week. The culvert was provided by Wisconsin Flowgate and installed by Red Run Property Services. Our own crew was busy conducting maintenance on various roads by joint and crack-sealing, and patching holes. We’re never going to run out of work!   Are you an ATV or UTV enthusiast? A recent Department of Natural Resources report stated that Wisconsin leads the nation in fatalities. As of August 8th, there were 30. The three top causes were: failure to wear helmets, failure to wear seatbelts, and lack of completing a safety education course. If you love this recreational sport, please be careful out there. Please make note that the Transfer Station will close at 5pm on Wednesdays starting September 2. So, open 11am until 5pm. Saturdays remain the same at 9am until 5pm. Thank you for your consideration.

This week our public works employees replaced a failing culvert on 100th Street S between Quarry and County Road W. Next week another will be replaced on 90th Street S, also between Quarry and CTH W. However, that one will be installed by local contractors. Also, next week those living on the northern ½ of 87th Street between Tower and Evergreen will see ~ 30 loads of crushed red granite hauled and graded. It’s been a long wait for these residents to have something other than “sugar sand” on their roadway. High five to grader operator Steve Dobeck who has been doing a great job this season.
