Congratulations are extended to Jim Yetter who was just elected as our Portage County Board Supervisor. Jim has served the Town of Grant for many years: currently as a First Responder and part-time public works employee, and as a former town board supervisor. If you have concerns or questions regarding county government, contact him at 715-213-2000. Many thanks to outgoing county board supervisor Greg Hakala for a job well done. Although he decided not to seek reelection to county government this term Greg continues to serve at our town treasurer. As an aside, if you did not purchase your dog license for 2024 you are now subject to a late fee.
During this week’s town board meeting we approved the reconstruction of Buena Vista Road (CTH F – 130th). Bid results ranged from a low bid of $337,060 to a high of $755,459. This road section has been “on the docket” since 2011 and will finally be repaired so that it can be traversed year-round. The Town of Grant received a WisDOT grant of $221,386 towards this reconstruction, leaving the Town with approximately $116,000 a nearly 66% savings! Thanks are extended to Quest Civil Engineers, LLC for their professional design and work on this difficult section of road. Earth Inc. was the low bid and will commence work in spring through fall of this year.
Also starting this spring will be culvert inspections of all those ranging from 6’ to 20’. This is a new requirement by WisDOT. Those bridges and culverts greater than 20’ are already inspected by Portage County, however they do not have the staff to assume this additional task. Supervisor Scott Provost will be leading this project with results due at year’s end.
This is reminder that there will be a Public Hearing on our revised Zoning Ordinance beginning at 6:00pm Tuesday April 16th. This will be followed by the Annual Meeting. All are welcome to attend.
Enjoy the beautiful weekend, Sharon
